Every Kid In China Is Now Required To Learn Al Starting September 1, Mandatory For Even
6-Year-Olds
As of September 1, 2025, Beijing will implement mandatory AI education for all primary and secondary school students, requiring a minimum of eight hours of AI lessons annually.
These lessons will either be woven into existing subjects or offered as standalone classes, with material adjusted for different age groups—starting with simple, interactive tasks for younger children and progressing to more complex AI concepts for high school students.
This initiative aligns with China’s ambition to lead globally in AI by fostering early skills in the next generation.
Education Minister Huai Jinpeng emphasized AI’s potential to reshape society and revealed plans for a national AI education white paper to guide the program.
This step mirrors a broader international trend, as nations like the U.S. and Italy are also incorporating AI into their educational frameworks.
